Dear Home Owner,
“Why are my batteries not fully charged yet?” To say the least, I was concerned. I had to admit it to myself that I knew nothing of what is needed to maintain my solar system.
It was just after two o’clock on a regular Wednesday afternoon, being bored behind my desk. I opened my security camera’s app and saw that it was a beautiful sunny day at home. But my inverter’s app said that my batteries were not fully charged yet and I wondered why. Because, when I first installed it, it was fully charged at around 11h00 in the morning. Now, it was already 3 hours later, and it was still charging.
Hi, my name is Francois du Toit. I’m a homeowner, just like you. Again like you, I had to come up with a huge amount of money to install my solar system. That is why it is important to me to take good care of my solar system.
Since I’m still on a fairly tight budget, I cannot really afford to make costly mistakes while I try to figure out about solar system maintenance.
I had to figure this out, fast: Should I do it myself, or should I just blindly trust the guy, any guy, who says that he does solar system maintenance?
After almost two years of studying, gaining practical work experience in the solar industry and still being a home owner on a tight budget, I’m now very comfortable to take care of my own system.
And I found a way to show you how you can do it too.
As a concerned home owner and as an installer, I saw how people want to know what they can do to maintain their solar system. They want to know what they can do themselves, and what must be outsourced to a professional. They don’t want to be vulnerable to some random guy’s opinion.
Since I already spend the time and money to acquire my knowledge and my experience, I decided to help other home owners with this information. It’s compiled with a home owner in mind, and not for the maintenance professional. I know that I have the knowledge that could give them that new level of confidence. A confidence that they can take care of their own system, whether doing some tasks yourself or having to hire a professional.
So I compiled a DIY package, which contains my knowledge, my experience and one of the key tools which I use to take care of my own (and some of my clients’) solar system.
Introducing: the DIY kit that make maintenance on you solar system easy and remove the guesswork from it!
It’s called
The Solar System Maintenance Kit
This is what you get inside the Solar System Maintenance Kit:
Solar Brush:
Light Weight: This brush less than 2.5kg, so that you have all your energy left to enjoy the rest of your day.
- Wide 500mm Cleaning Head: Covers more surface area with every sweep, reducing cleaning time and ensuring thorough dirt removal.
- 4 Water Jets: These evenly spaced jets distribute the water evenly over the brush head, and so preventing dry spot under the brush’s bristles.
- 19m Water Pipe: It is long enough that the end of the garden hose stays in one place, while you walk around to get everything done.
- Light and Smooth Water Pipe: When the supplied water pipe lies on the panels, it will not scratch or damage the glass of the panels.
- Copper Shut-Off Valve: With a sturdy copper valve, you can control water flow right at the brush—no more running back and forth to the tap. It’s also strong enough that it can endure a little abuse from time to time.
- Regular Garden Hose Connector: Simply connect the brush to a garden hose, there is no additional equipment needed.
- 3.9m Telescopic Handle: Easily adjustable between 1.2m and 3.9m, which let you easily get to every area on your solar panels.
- Aluminum Handle: It will never rust or corrode away. Because of that, your handle will still be sturdy 25 years from now.
- Foam Rubber on the Handle: On the end of the handle, is a piece of foam rubber wrapped around the handle. It helps to keep perfect control over the brush, and reduces hand fatigue.
- Adjustable Head: Since every roof and installation is different from the next, you can adjust the angle of the brush’s head to be perfect for your roof. Once it’s tightened into position, you’ll never have to adjust it again.
- Instantly Control the Water Flow Tempo: Since water is precious (and you pay for it as well), you can regulate the water flow with the shut off valve, to allow just enough water to come through.
- Homeowner Friendly: Designed with homeowners in mind, it’s easy to set up and takes very little space to store.
- Great Value: Professional results at a DIY price.
The Solar Maintenance Guide:
This is how this little booklet will help you to save even a lot more money on future maintenance tasks:
- Professional Knowledge: It’s compiled by a solar installer with PV Green Card accreditation and more that 2 years of solar installation experience.
- Covers all Components: Each component needs it’s own type of attention, and it’s discussed under various topics.
- Highlights Every Area of Maintenance Needed: Every solar installation is different from the next one. That is why this guide covers various scenarios, to make sure that your unique situation is also included in the guide.
- What To Do, When to Do It: The first bit of guesswork that it removes, is to know what goes into the maintenance of your system. Most homeowners don’t know what are the areas to look out for to properly maintain their solar system. This booklet does a breakdown, from visual inspections, to all kind of measurements. It will also give you an idea of when the next round of maintenance is needed.
- Who Does What? There are a lot of things that you can do yourself. Others must be done by people with the right qualifications and equipment. By knowing who does what, you are in the driver seat, and not at the mercy of someone who’d like to convince you that they must do something, that you can actually do yourself. Or they might suggest maintenance tasks, that isn’t really necessary.
- How To Do It: This little booklet also gives you advice on how to do some of these tasks, the ones that you can do yourself.
With this Solar System Maintenance Kit, you set to not only keep your system in great condition, but also to save lots of money.
In addition, you’ll also get the following:
Nationwide Delivery Included: It’s included in the price.
- 2 – 6 Days Delivery Time: Depending on where in the country you lives.
- Immediate Digital Download: In the Thank You email, after your transaction was successful, you’ll get a download link, where you can access the Guide right there and then.
- 100% Results Satisfaction – Money Back Guarantee: In the first 60 days, after you’ve purchased The Solar System Maintenance Kit, you can w
ash your panels. If you’re not happy with the results, you can simply ship it back to us (in the original package), and we’ll refund all of your money. That is a 60 day, 100% money back guarantee. And you get to keep The Solar System Maintenance Guide.
Here’s to cleaner panels, brighter savings and a system that will serve you over it’s entire lifespan!
Let the Sun Shine, Keep the Lights On.
This is why we offer the reduced price on these. We haven’t place our order yet for the next shipment, and we don’t know what the price will be on the next shipment. So if these 50 brushes are gone, so is this price…
(Last time I updated this page, there was only 45 left.)
Calculating the costs of your options –
DIY vs Professional Services.
When I am buying something that is a little bit of a stretch for me, I always take my budget into account. I’m asking myself how this purchase will impact my finances over time? And this is how I reason stuff like this out for myself, before I make a final decision:
At Raptor Solar, our cheapest baseline fee to inspect and clean solar panels, is R500. That is if our client lives in Pretoria. Should we travel to Johannesburg, our baseline fee is R750.
The next item in our list, is the amount of panels on the client’s roof. Our price is R50/ panel. And we have a couple of existing clients who are more than willing to pay for our services.
Let’s use a typical scenario for a client in Pretoria with 10 panels:
R500 baseline fee
10 x R50 = R500
Total: R1000.
Should we clean their panels twice a year, that will be a total of R2000 for the year. Over the 25 year lifespan of their panels, it will be a total cost of R50 000. And in this number, we didn’t take yearly inflation increases into account.
So, if you didn’t buy The Solar System Maintenance Kit, by the fourth time we’d come to clean your panels and inspect your system, you would have spend more than what this kit will cost you. And every time after that, you will spend another R1000, only to have your system inspected and your panels cleaned.
For the homeowner who know how to work carefully with your money, and the hands-on guy that you are, calling a professional cleaning service, is just not worth your while. That is why this Solar System Maintenance Kit makes so much sense. (In fact, we focus the marketing of our professional maintenance service to high-end homes in upmarket estates.)
By owning the tool that I use to clean your panels, you don’t have to pay me for my service, my time and my traveling costs…
By using the same information that I use to make maintenance decisions, you don’t have to pay me a consultation fee (the baseline fee), even if there is no maintenance work needed during that callout…
So when you do call me (or another qualified person) to do some maintenance, you already know what needs to be done. There are no surprises as to ‘what else’ also needs to be fixed or replaced.
What it cost me to give you this information:
As I mentioned before, I did the PV Green Card training, and passed their exam. Now I’m a PV Green Card accredited solar installer. Although it was a fairly challenging course, it was also an fairly expensive course. We paid R14 040 for this course. (One of my friends paid R30 000 to get the same PV Green Card accreditation, at a different training centre.)
I also worked (at the time of writing) for two years already as an solar installer.
The information from the PV Green Card course, mixed with hands on experience in the field, gave me the information that I condensed into The Solar Maintenance Guide.
You can find this information online, but I’ve never seen that any type of article or download, have all of this information in one place. So if you surf the net to find this information, you will have to compare all kinds articles to each other. And in the end, only because a lot of people give the same kind of advice, doesn’t mean that their advice complies with South African safety regulations. The result is that it can still leave an uncertain feeling at the pit of your stomach whether the info you gathered, is accurate and applicable to you or not.
Here’s the summary:
The Solar Maintenance Kit cost you R3300, while there are still stock in this batch.
The condensed and focused information in this booklet cost me R14 040 in training fees and 2 years of active experience to gather. That is also something that you don’t need to go through yourself.

P.S. This solar brush is excellent for windows too…
P.S.S. And washing windows on the second floor might not even require a ladder with the 4m telescopic handle.
P.S.S.S. Some people even use these brushes to reach the difficult spots while washing their SUV’s, bakkies or caravans.
*Please Note:
These calculations is made based on Raptor Solar’s current pricelist and the fact that I have 10 panels on my roof. Your situation is most likely different than mine.
