Specialised and Locally Reinvented Equipment | Avoiding Risks is Standard Practise | Environmentally Friendly |
Equipment designed forsolar panels, not cars or windows
|
Scratch-Free Equipment:
On top of the glass, is a delicate layer, called the anti-reflective coating (arc). It is responsible for 4% of your panel’s efficiency. Our equipment is redesigned and tested on various roof, and it doesn’t scratch the arc. We had no choice but to redesign our brush’s heads. When it arrived from the manufacturer in China, the standard bristles were too hard. Those bristles scratched the panels – forcing us to take it back to our own drawing board. When we studied the websites of a lot of solar panel cleaning services, none made this bold promise that they won’t scratch your panels. (Maybe because they use the standard equipment available from China, through local suppliers?) |
Risks while cleaning your panels |
Water Quality:
Tap water contains chemicals and minerals that is dissolved in it. Sometimes there is even mud or other particles in it. We use a mobile 3-stage water treatment facility to make the water safe for usage on solar panels, removing these chemicals and dissolved minerals. Chemicals may or may not react with the arc and the waterproofing seal of the panels, we don’t know what chemicals is in the tap water in your area. To be safe, our mobile water treatment facility simply removes these chemicals. If tap water evaporate, it leaves white spots and streaks on the glass. If that continually happens for the 25 year lifespan of your panels, the panels will look worse that the inside of a kettle. The De-Ionising resin (stage 3 of our water treatment) removes these minerals. When the water hit the panel, for every 1 million water molecules, there are less than 10 mineral molecules. In less-scientific terms, it means that there is virtually no dissolved minerals in the water we use to clean your panels. Potential Lawsuits:
When your gardener falls of a ladder or from the roof, it could result in potential huge claims. When one of our staff gets injured while they are on your premises, executing their cleaning duties, we carry that risk, not you. One of the main reasons why we keep our staff safe, is that we supplied them with specialised slip-proof shoes. It sticks better that gumboots or safety shoes, especially under wet conditions. |
We cleanwe don’t pollute,
|
Chemicals:
We use only our special brushes and water as describe above, nothing else. While others may use chemicals (soap) to clean panels, here are the reasons why we decided not to use it: Potential pollution. Even if the soap is bio-degradable, we don’t know it’s effects on your garden soil before it’s completely broken down. This is even more true if the chemicals are not bio-degradable. Effect on the panel. As mentioned before, we don’t know how this chemical will react, combined with your local area’s water, with the arc or the waterproofing seal. Some panel manufacturers clearly said what type of chemicals should be avoided n their panels. Water Flow Regulator:
We don’t just open the tap let the water run free. |
Our Story
“My panels are extremely dirty” was my exclamation late in August 2023. At that point in time, I already knew that dirty panels reduce the efficiency of a solar system dramatically.
Cleaning my own panels first and discovering various challenges and risks:
Practising on my own panels, I discovered a lot of challenges to clean the panels effectively (and not causing damage to it.) I also realised first-hand the safety risks involved in washing these panels.
A slippery roof, even with good shoes, still is very dangerous. I could just imagine what could happen if a gardener slips, fall on the panels, and then tumble to the ground. That is damaged panels and a potential huge claim for his injuries.
Well, in my third attempt, I did scratch my panels – even with the fancy professional solar panel cleaning tool we imported (at great costs). To be accurate, I didn’t scratch the glass of the panel, it was the anti-reflective coating that got damaged.
At first, I washed it with a kitchen broom, a garden hose pipe and a car window squeegee. In the end, it was clean, but it was labour intensive and dangerous, because I spend a long time on a wet and very slippery roof.
Secondly, I tried a solar brushed that was designed for DIY applications. Yet, it was very difficult to remove all the accumulated dirt. I couldn’t regulate the water flow, and the brush is very light. So I had to apply a lot of downward force to remove the dirt.
Lesson Learned,
so that from my experience, we’ll do everything we can to avoid these risks when cleaning your panels.
In the end, I adjusted our imported rotational brushes, so that the bristles don’t scratch the panels any more.
We also made a very special non-slip shoes mandatory for all our personel that work on roofs. It’s not only to improve their safety, but also to reduce your risks. The less likely the are to slip, the less likely they will fall on your panels.
Now I can wash any client’s panels, and assure him that we took every humanly possible precaution to treat their panels with the utmost care and respect, while we actively avoid any possible risk we know of.
Your Options
You already decided that you need to have your panels cleaned. Now, let’s compare your options.
1. Do It Yourself:
You need to:
Buy equipment – between R2000 and R35 000. (When you buy a setup just like the one we use, it will set you R35 000 back)
Spend a Saturday morning on your roof. Washing it from the ground is less effective. Where would you rather be on a Saturday morning? Mountain biking? At a restaurant with your wife? Bird watching in Wakkerstroom?
Learn the skill to clean it streak-free. (What is your time worth?)
2. Use your Gardener:
Teach him the skill to clean it streak free. (What is your time worth?)
Buy the equipment.
Make sure that you comply to all health and safety regulations in order to avoid a claim, should he fall, get injured or die. (Spending a day at a Working at Heights training course, where you could have spend your leave days better. Again, what is your time worth?)
3. Use any other solar panel cleaning service:
Do the research if they can and do make the claims we do.
Can they say for certain that there equipment won’t scratch your panels?
Are their staff solar installers, who know how to handle solar panels under all circumstances?
Do they carry the risk in the event of an accident or injury?
Did they do everything they can to make sure their staff are safe? Special shoes, training, compliance to OHS, etc.
Do they offer the best quality water? Do they pollute the environment (aka your garden) with chemicals?
But you already did your research on us, didn’t you? You read this far, and know everything there is to know about Sparkling Panel Solutions.
Use our Sparkling Panel Solutions:
We save you a lot of time and we avoid, on your behalves, a lot of risks.
And our service is most likely less that your monthly insurance premium.
